Guidelines for New Tumblr Users/Harmonious Tumblr Living

1. This is the reblog button. Use this when you see a post you would want in your blog. Don’t save the said picture or gif on your computer and make another post. That takes too long! And if you think, “Oh but this one probably just took 5 minutes to edit”, try Photoshop first, see if you can create exactly the same edit.
2. Weheartit, Fanpop, and other sites like these are our enemy. If you’ve seen a great post there, it’s probably from a tumblr user who has worked on it for an hour to make it pretty. If you can, please track the original post (don’t think fanpop allows this though). 
3. Check your blog settings to allow messages and replies because that’s how you’ll make friends ok.
4. A great theme without an autoplay music player is recommended. (Side note: the theme garden is definitely not the only place to find said great themes)
5. These: are tags. These are the best place to express all your emotions without shouting it to the world. Pour your heart out. They are also used for organizing your posts, or helping out people who want to block certain things from their dash.
6. When uploading photos/gifs in text posts, do not use this  because it will appear like this , which other people will have to click on to “load” and see (and it’s annoying). Use this  instead.
7. Tumblr is the #1 place to get spoiled on a movie or a new episode of a TV show. Some people might tag these spoilers but not all of them would. So if you truly don’t want to be spoiled, LEAVE TUMBLR FOR A BIT. We love these shows and movies and books so much that of course we want to comment on or make gifs or graphics of them ASAP.  Don’t blame us for our love.
8. If you’re making a text post to say “I hate [character/ship/show/movie/book]” or something along those lines, do not, I repeat, DO NOT tag it with said character/ship/movie/book. We treasure our tracked tags, and this post CORRUPTS said tags. (And then you will get hate back or a block from one or more persons. No one will pity you darling.)  
9. Respect other people’s opinions; well, except if they are offensive or triggering or just wrong (and by wrong I DO NOT mean that they ship non-canon ships) 
10. If you want to block posts with certain tags from showing on your dashboard, use Tumblr Savior. (So long as the people you follow correctly tag their posts, too.)
11. Finally, there are many userscripts and add-ons you can install to improve Tumblr. (The #1 thing I can recommend you to get is Missing-e (as in the missing “e” in “tumblr” ;) It allows you to reply to replies, tag your asks, replies and queue, reblog yourself, etc. It’s a must-have, really)
